The 2013-2014 assessment results of the Provincial Capacity Development Fund (PCDF) will be released shortly.

Acting Prime Minister Manasseh Maelanga made the comments in his keynote address at the Guadalcanal 32nd Second Appointed Day celebrations yesterday.

He said the assessment team has completed the assessment and the report should now be finalised.

“The PCDF assessment of PCDF projects in 2013 and 2014 has already been completed. The assessment team has already completed the assessment of all provinces and the report should now be finalised. In other words, the result of the PCDF assessment will be released shortly. My understanding is that the Ministry of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening will be working really hard with all provincial governments in light of the current assessment to ensure provinces are on track and fully prepared for the next assessment in October 2016.”

Meanwhile, the Acting Prime Minister said the PCDF provides many funding opportunities for small-scale infrastructure development projects.

“The PCDF provides a lot of funding opportunities for small-scale infrastructure development projects including classrooms and dormitories, office buildings, sporting facilities, markets, staff houses, footpaths and small retail outlets. I, therefore, appeal for your commitment to continue to provide support in terms of planning with sound policy decisions and to help move the province forward in terms of its PCDF qualification and financial performance.”

SIBC News understands the National Government has allocated $50 million in this year’s PCDF.
