Applications are now open for the 2016 Taiwan Scholarships Program.

A statement from the Republic of China (Taiwan) Embassy in Honiara confirms applications are open from 15 January to 15 March.

Provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the ROC (Taiwan) for advanced education in Taiwan, the scholarship program also promotes bilateral exchanges and friendship between the peoples of Taiwan and Solomon Islands.

Each awarded student will also be offered a five-year study grant, including the first year of required Mandarin language training and four years of bachelor degree studies.

The scholarship covers monthly allowances for tuition, board and lodge, local transport, utility bills, insurance, and study materials during the period.

Applicants are required to be Solomon Islands citizens aged under 23 with Form Six or Seven Certificates and good academic records and moral character.

Meanwhile, it adds, previous recipients and exchange students who are admitted in Taiwan nor having records of scholarships being cancelled before will not apply.

The statement adds eligible students must submit their applications to the National Training Unit (NTU) at the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development in Honiara with relevant qualification requirements.

NTU will conduct an initial review of all applications based on the eligibility requirements and selection criteria of the Taiwan Scholarship.

The final result will be announced by 1st July 2016.

Eligible Solomon Islands high school graduates are encouraged to apply to fulfil their aspirations for advanced studies abroad.
