PIKININI SOKA GETS A BOOST

The Solomon Islands Football Federation [SIFF] and the European Union, through a Micro projects programme have signed an agreement worth $112,500 towards the Pikinini Soka Development Programme. The Programme will begin in the new year, 2002.

The Pikinini Soka Development Programme is a grassroots development initiative supported by the Federation for the development of soccer for the rural population. It will mainly concentrate on the development of soocer among youth in rural areas. Under the programme, assistance will be given to provincial football association for:

1. development of centres of excellence development programmes;
2. Junior soccer leagues;
3. Training of coaches; and
4. National junior championships.

The programme is expected to last three years.

KITANO CUP ATTRACTED 90 GOLFERS
Saturday 24th November witnessed the running of the 9th Solomon Kitanao Mendana Hotel Cup. This is a popular mixed stableford event and 90 players took part.

Minor prizes:
Nearest the pin on the 9th ladies Lolita Taloikwai. Nearest the pin on the 9th men David Schupp. On the 18th ladies Marilyn Bae. The men's prize went to our sponsors representative Masao Yamagata.

Bale Lee longest drive on the 1st for the ladies. Max Maelasi longest drive on the 1st for the men. On the 17th it was Vivienne Ramoifuila for the ladies, AND or the men it was John Kenna.

Major prizes:
In third spot for the ladies was Marilyn McCulloch who shot 36. The men's 3rd prizewinner on 37 was Ging Hii. Eteri Wilson runner up for the ladies 36 on a countback Max Maelasi made a welcome return to form to take 2nd place for the men with 38 points.

The winner of the Solomon Kitano Cup for the ladies, with a 9 under par 45 points, was Visit Vavaha. On his last competition before going finis, Ivan Linhart put together the best score for the men's cup and his 41 gave him 1st place.

Handicap cuts:
Visit Vavaha lost 4 strokes to 26. Ivan Linhart down 3 to 26. Max Maelasi down 1 to go back to 8.
