The Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) has reminded the Solomon Island government to address illegal fishing in its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

The FFA Director General James Movick reiterates to Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare, any country engaged in tuna export must fully comply with European Union requirements.

Mr Movic says this is important as the European Commission has in place a regulation designed to prevent, deter and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.

Movick adds Solomon Islands, amongst other FFA member countries, has been issued a yellow card for non-compliance with the regulation.

SIBC News understands FFA has already discussed the yellow card with the Minister for Fisheries and Marine Resources
