An adult man was pronounced dead by medical authorities after he fell off the back of an open truck yesterday.

The Aola, East Guadalcanal man lost his balance and fell off the moving vehicle when the driver tried to miss the many pot holes along the Tenaru road.

Guadalcanal Police confirmsĀ the sad incident happened between 6 to 8pm yesterday evening.

It says anĀ investigation into the unfortunate death is currently underway.

Meanwhile, Provincial Assembly Member for Aola ward, Gordon Tapalia has called on the National Government to address the deteriorating road condition in East Guadalcanal.

Mr. Tapalia says, the very poor road condition in East Guadalcanal has claimed a number of lives already.

The MPA calls on the Ministry of Infrastructure Development to ensure road repair works on East Guadalcanal meets minimum satisfactory standard.

“So we are asking whoever is responsible for the road contracts, please properly patch up pot holes and maintain our roads in the way that they should be. There are lots of contractors around and a fair distribution of contracts would be fair enough and that they should ensure that roads are maintained up to standards to ensure our people’s safety.”
