The Australian High Commission has this morning hosted its annual breakfast to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD).
The event was attended by more than 100 people at the Heritage Park Hotel.
Australian High Commissioner to Solomon Islands Andrew Byrne says he is honoured to host the important annual event.
He says the breakfast is an opportunity come together to celebrate the progress towards ending violence against women and girls in Solomon Islands.
He says it is a time to reflect on progress made in the past year and to recommit to addressing the barriers to achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment.
The annual breakfast and award ceremony has become a feature of International Women’s Day in Solomon Islands.
It recognises pioneering Solomon Islands women and men who display leadership, innovation and courage on issues of gender equity.
