Three Members of the Australian Parliament have arrived in Honiara to observe the 2014 National General Elections tomorrow.

Freelancer George Atkin reports, Australia’s Foreign Ministers, Julie Bishop says the members will take part in the Commonwealth Observer Group and the Australian observation team.

Minister Bishop says the presence of Australian parliamentarians demonstrates the close relationship between Australia and Solomon Islands.

Ms Bishop commends the Solomon Islands Government and community on thorough preparations leading up to tomorrow’s election.

Ms Bishop says Australia has worked closely with Solomon Islands to support the election by allocating advisors for the Solomon Islands Electoral Commission and the introduction of the biometric voter registration system.

She says Australia and Solomon Islands have worked closely together across a wide range of sectors for many years with a strong track record of supporting stability and development in Solomon Islands.
