The current bad weather has excessively affected the travelling public of North Malaita.

North Malaita stringer, John Andrew Kiri reports the current heavy rain has destroyed a semi-concrete bridge near Maguatavate Community.

This has affected many important services between Auki and the region.

“The culvert at Maguatavate in Ward eight of the Constituency was totally washed away, creating difficulties for passing vehicles as well as denying people access to the basic social services such as health, education, businesses, markets and transport services to and from Auki at the moment.”

People in the region now call on the responsible ministry to quickly assess the situation and fix the damaged infrastructure to restore the important link.

“They are calling on the Ministry of Infrastructure Development to quickly sent for assessments so that any repairs can be done to restore access to basic services.”
