Makira Ulawa Provincial Minister for Culture and Tourism, Martin Karani says the ‘Banana Festival’ plays a crucial role in his province’s Tourism development.

“Its significance is that it was done in relation to the promotion of tourism in the province and as the Minister responsible for Tourism, I am happy that the organisers have also maintain that as well as feature tourism. I think this is where banana has become the sort of spotlight commodity and we would like to relate that to tourism because it’s a unique plant that we have in Makira.”

Minister Karani adds the provincial government will ensure tourism activities become one of the main revenue earners at the provincial level.

He encourages stakeholders to prioritise culture and tourism as major revenue earners at all levels of the economy.
