The current billboards erected within the Honiara City have failed to meet billboard standards set by the Honiara City Council (HCC).

HCC Deputy City Mayor Eddie Ngava confirmed this is because those responsible for the boards have failed to seek the Council’s
permission before installing the billboards.

Mr Ngava urged all Honiara businesses and the general public to submit their applications for HCC approval before putting up
billboards within the City boundary.

“The issue we have at the moment is that there appears not to be any control and the billboards seem to be going up left, right and centre following what they want, and the sizes are too large to the point that instead of beautifying the City they turn ugly and disturbing the streets. So we are trying to deal with the billboards as to where they should be located and at what size and how much it would cost.”
