A cartoon published in the Solomon Star has angered the Solomon Islands National Council of Women.

According to the President, Mrs. Ella Kauhue, the Cartoonist is insensitive to the issues affecting young girls in the country especially sexual violation in the country.

The Cartoon portrays the young girls of this country in a very negative and sexist manner.

Having that kind of material available, it encourages sexual abuse and violence in a country that is already high in violating women’s rights in the region.

Mr. Kauhue reacted, portraying that “there are a lot of BLUE Movies of all the young girls in the country are made available” is incorrect and raises a very negative image of our girls.

She says such cartoons do not deserve publicity at all.

Mr. Kauhue says if however, what the Cartoonist is saying is true, then this is a grave concern for this country.

The Council understands such work is often created for entertainment, political commentary, or advertising, it is still wrong to associate our young girls in such a manner.
