Central Bank Governor, Denton Rarawa has condemned the theft of the ANZ ATM machine in Honiara, saying “this is unacceptable”.

The ATM Machine was situated at the Kwaimani Building, along Kukum Highway, and was stolen on Friday night by men reported as wearing masks and carrying guns.

Later media reports said, the ATM Machine was found at the Alligator Creek, east of Honiara and was missing over 2-hundred thousand dollars.

Reacting to the news of the theft today, the CBSI Governor said this is a very sad development for Solomon Islands.

Governor Rarawa said the Central Bank deplores such unlawful acts, and condemns the theft of public amenities such as ATM machines, which are provided by banks to serve the wider public.

He said these facilities are installed at great expense to serve the public, and the action of a very small group endangers the continued provision of such services by financial institutions.

He said this is unacceptable.

Meanwhile, the Central Bank Governor issued a call to the public to assist the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force in their investigations so that those involved are arrested.
