FIGHT VIOLENCE WITH SPORTS, SAYS BISHOP TOME

Sports is an avenue that people can work together to fight violence against women and children, says Anglican Bishop Nathan Tome of the Guadalcanal Archdiocese.

Bishop Nathan Tome made the remarks during the opening of the Paramount Chief Cup in Bouna village, Longgu in East Guadalcanal last week.

SIBC’s West Are’are stringer Gabriel Riotarau reports Bishop Tome was addressing the young people and women who took part in the one week tournament.

Mr. Riotarau reported Bishop Tome as saying sports is one way of conquering violence against women and girls.

“He says sports is one avenue that people can work together to fight violence against women. He said we must have gender balance in our society. Bishop Nathan continues to say it’s enough to have this mentality that women are inferior than men who are superior, because in creation God created women from men and not from a man’s head or feet but from the side so that women are equal with man”, said Bishop Tome.

The Bishop added women must have an equal opportunity whether in education, leadership or governance in our society.
