FINANCE CONFIRMED TABLING 2016 MID-TERM BUDGET

The Ministry of Finance and Treasury confirms the 2016 Mid-Year Budget Review has been tabled in Parliament.

The announcement was made yesterday clarify Opposition claims, the Minister of Finance and Treasury may have breached the Public Finance Management, PFM Act by not tabling the report.

But in a Government statement, the Ministry is committed to implementing reforms under the PFM Act that increase transparency in Government businesses and encourages sharing of information on government finances.

The Ministry of Finance reiterates, the passage and effectiveness of the PFM Act 2013, in the year 2014 were an important milestone.

It says, to be able to implement the Act, the Ministry of Finance continues to upgrade and integrate systems and processes and recruit staff.

Permanent Secretary Harry Kuma says it is important that data quality and integrity is ensured in this reporting and the Ministry is working very hard to ensure that reports that need to be published under the requirement of the Act are of high quality.

PS Kuma reiterates that the 2016 MYBR has been tabled in Parliament and that the Ministry of Finance does not have any intention to withhold information from the public.
