The Forum Solomon Islands International says it supports what the government has finally realized – that the Minister for Infrastructure Development decision to reinstate a sacked CEO of Solomon Islands Ports Authority was a mistake.

A statement from FSII stated the Minister of Finance confirmed this during the signing of documents that will pave way for the initial work to start on improving the country’s international seaport.

Finance Minister Rick Hou was quoted by media as describing the issue of who is the Ports Authority’s CEO as a problem.

Minister of Infrastructure Development, Seth Gukuna last year had caused public backlash when he reinstated sacked CEO of SIPA, William Barile.

Chairman of the SIPA Board, Nollen Leni had criticized Gukuna’s decision citing that Barile’s sacking was based on proven allegations.

But Gukuna stood his ground and sacked Leni as well as the entire board members for what he described as an attempt to over- ride his ministerial decision.

The matter is now before the courts to decide.
