There needs to be further provisions in the areas of compliance and respect of processes from developers in the mining sector, says Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare.
Prime Minister Sogavare said a major area in this is the greater need for landowners to give special attention to the content of the any signed agreement.
“In the mining sector there needs to be further revision in the areas of compliance and respect of processes and procedures by a developer. This may mean to say that landowners on whose lands these mineral resources are declared, must also give special attention to the requirements that are to be followed. The mentality of get rich quick has led most community developments afar, living very little for the landowners to show forth in terms of tangible development.”
The Prime Minister adds, environmental and social concerns should be considered to ensure the sustainability of mining sector in Solomon Islands.
