The Democratic Coalition for Change (DCC) Government is disappointed that the Opposition and Independent Groups in Parliament will not support the Government efforts in getting the Anti-Corruption Bill 2016 through Parliament.

In recent weeks, there was bipartisan support for the Anti-Corruption Bill 2016 but that had changed over the weekend when senior MPs within the Opposition and Independent Groups actively working and trying to defeat the Bill for political expediency.

The Government feels that due to the Opposition and Independent Groups actively trying to defeat the Anti-Corruption Bill 2016 for political convenience, the Government has decided not to table the Bill in Parliament this week.

A statement from the Prime Minister and Cabinet says the parliamentary exercise will resume in due course and at a time when both sides of politics see eye-to-eye on the importance of this
country having a robust anti-corruption regime in place.

The Government adds, the people of this nation will be disappointed but unfortunately it will be a futile exercise now if Parliament is to consider the Anti-Corruption Bill 2016 now.
