Leader of the Independent Members of Parliament and member for West Are’are John Maneniaru has described as “great joy” serving alongside the Government for the past three years.

Speaking on behalf of the Opposition and the Independent members of Parliament during the dissolution dinner hosted by Speaker of Parliament Sir Allan Kemakeza recently, Mr Maneniaru said they enjoyed being the government’s watchdog in the 9th Parliament.

“It has been a great joy for us as Members of the Opposition and Independent Group to have enjoyed your leadership. We have gone through times of trials that challenges us as leaders, we have gone through times that challenges us to even go to and extent that we overlook that we are all leaders. We thank you for the leadership of our country, thank you for the achievements in your capacity as the government for our people and our nation.”

Mr Maneniaru also conveyed their apologies to the government if they have not performed as expected.

“May I also ask you Deputy Prime Minister to convey to the Honourable Prime Minister and your Ministers of the Crown, we ask for your forgiveness if the Opposition and the Independent group have not performed in their watchdog role as you may have expected. I hope in your forgiveness it will embrace that we are all leaders and through that your sincere heart prayers will help us to continue to improve in our leadership capacities to continue to lead our people.”
