The Honiara City Council has completed its 2011 audit report.

This was the first audit report produced by the Council after four years.

HCC Treasurer. Moses Kaukui told the PAC Committee last week, they completed the 2011 report in May this year according to schedule.

Mr Kaukui explained they hired experts to assist put together the reports.

“The magnitude of this work is not small. Now we had to enter into engaging an expert for the situation. We identified it through bidding, they came forward and we hired them. They trained us first, then when our staff had the confidence, they helped us to close them. The Council treasurer says the 2012 report should have been completed last week.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Aoke-Langalanga Mathew Wale says the delay to complete the audit reports on time indicates elements of mismanagement in the Council.

Requesting the Honiara City Council’s audit reports for 2011 to 2014 last week during the Public Accounts hearing, Mr. Wale says the Council had promised before the last House dissolved to complete the reports.

He says their failure clearly indicates mismanagement.

“Mismanagement. The accounts and affairs of the City Council are being mismanagement. And two, it is much worse. This mismanagement is covering far worse, and by that I’m only speculating but I am left with no other conclusion because the things we should have to conclude that things are going right are not there.”

Mr. Wale adds the Council could have collected more revenue if its accounting systems were accountable.
