The Honiara City Council Youth Division today joined other UN member countries to celebrate International Youth Day which falls annually on 12 August.

Speaking at the celebration today Minister of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs Jimson Tananganda says it is important in government policies and any international organisation to recognise youth issues.

He says these celebrations will recognize the vital contributions from young people.

“These celebrations will recognise the vital contributions young people make to promoting youth, civic engagements and overcoming challenges. With access to the right support, every person can reach their potential.”

The Minister adds the goal of the Solomon Islands National Youth Policy 2010-2015 is to promote the development of Solomon Islands Youth to achieve their full potential.

“The goal of Solomon Islands National Youth Policy 2010-2015 is to promote the development of Solomon Islands youth to achieve their full potential through a range of programmes and activities that offer choices and assist them to make informed decisions about their future and their roles and responsibilities and the potential of political, social and economic development of the Solomon Islands.”
