The Honiara City Council (HCC) through the Rapid Employment Project (REP) has signed an agreement with the Solomon Islands Development Trust (SIDT) to support the council’s environmental awareness program.

Themed “a clean and green environment”, the program aims to increase the sustainability of the street cleaning services by HCC through an environmental awareness campaign designed to change attitudes among residents about keeping the city and local communities clean.

This is to reduce littering, encourage recycling, protect water bodies, and getting the public involved in the maintenance of communal areas.

REP Project Manager Salvador Jiao said REP will provide relevant documentation for the education and awareness content and advice on the subsequent phases of the program.

Meanwhile, HCC City Clerk Charles Kelly affirmed that SIDT is a specialized NGO group in advocating the ‘clean and green environment’ program.
