HEAVY RAIN ALERT.

The Solomon Islands Meteorological Service has issued- ‘Heavy Rain Alert’ for parts of the country.

Principal Officer, National Disaster Management Office, Mr Hotoravu Alenge says, the Heavy Rain Alert is in force for Western, Central, Guadalcanal, Makira and Rennell and Bellona provinces.

He says the current bad weather is attributed to an active monsoon trough which lies south of Solomon Islands and links to a developing  tropical Low located south-southwest of Rennell Island.

Mr Alenge adds, associated cloud and rain are expected to affect the Solomon Islands within  the next 24 to 48 hours.

He warns, such localised Heavy Rain may lead to possible flash flooding or flooding over communities living close to large rivers, streams and low lying areas.
