Heavy rain expected to hit all provinces, alert in effect

Rain in South Guadalcanal

The Solomon Islands Meteorological Service issued a heavy rain alert for all provinces this morning.

A trough currently lies over Solomon Islands, and a low is predicted to form south of the country in the northern Coral Sea by the middle of the week.

Clouds and heavy rain associated with the trough are expected to affect Solomon Islands within the next 48 to 72 hours.

Communities near large rivers or streams and those in low-lying areas are advised to monitor the situation and take precautions as localised heavy rain could lead to flash flooding.

The meteorological service will issue an update on the alert at 7 p.m. today.
