Hotel owners in the country have decided to form an Association for their businesses.

The association is expected to shape up of an industry lobby that can take key agendas directly to the government and other stakeholders.

General Manager of the Heritage Park Hotel and SIVB board member, Sanjay Bhargava is Interim chair of the Association and he leads a team representing King Solomon Hotel, the Mendana Hotel and the Pacific Casino Hotel.

The committee’s first job is to form the Association’s constitution and fundamental focus, membership policy and structure and initiate a membership recruitment drive.

The creation of an industry crisis management team and the establishment of a master database comprising local, regional and global information are also high on the agenda.

SIBC News understands, there are similar organizations in Fiji, Samoa and Vanuatu which have proven successful in coordinating efforts to build tourism in their respective countries.
