An inter-secondary school sports championship is planned for all secondary schools within the southern region of Malaita Province.
Rokera Provincial Secondary School is hosting the championship in the semester break, this year.
It is expected to bring together 18 secondary and community high schools from across the southern region.
Rokera Principal, Jeffrey Po’ea told SIBC News, the initiative is to promote the spirit of competitiveness from the classroom to the sports field and vice versa.
“As principals, we met and formulate an idea that we should have the students to be competitive and so in order for them to be competitive, they have to start through sports and take that spirit to the classroom to compete academically because we have seen that students are not performing academically well in our region.”
