UN Women Solomon Islands will next week join International Women’s Day celebration in Honiara.
International Women’s Day is celebrated to acknowledge progress made for women’s rights, women’s empowerment and gender equality in the region.
A statement from the UN Women Office in Honiara says the International Women’s Day provides an opportunity to reaffirm Pacific commitments to addressing gender equality and to look to the future of women in development.
It says UN Women Solomon Islands is working with Honiara City Council, the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs and with a number of organizations committed to achieving gender equality to coordinate the commemoration to mark International Women’s Day.
A parade to highlight and celebrate the achievements and potential of Solomon Islands women will start at seven-fifty am next Tuesday, from Honiara City Council to Art Gallery where activities will be held to mark the day.
