Water supply and sanitation problems will be a thing of the past for the communities of Kolofe and Kwaibala in Auki, Malaita Province.

Thanks to the Government and People of Japan for funding an SBD$500,000 worth of project materials towards a water supply and sanitation project for the communities.

Speaking at a grant contract signing for the project yesterday, Japanese Ambassador to Solomon Islands, Kenichi Kimiya says the project aims to provide the Kolofe and Kwaibala communities with basic water and sanitation facilities.

“This project aims to provide the basic water supply system and sanitation facilities for the people of Kolofe and Kwaibala communities. The total amount of assistance for the communities reached about SBD$500,000.00 in total, to install 10,000 litres water tanks with 13 standpipes covering all the Kolofe and Kwaibala community area, consisting of 822 people who have suffered from the lack of an adequate water supply system.”

The Japanese Ambassador said his government and people believe the project will improve the public health and living environment for those who are struggling to have access to clean water and proper sanitation facilities.
