The occurrence of landslides in Gizo, Western Province is increasing following last weekend’s bad weather.

Sina Adrian of Radio Hapi Lagun reported the latest landslide happened yesterday at the northern ridge of Premier Robert Kuve’s residence, following heavy rains on Thursday night.

Sina reports the landslide occurred early yesterday morning, at around 4am.

He said the northern fence surrounding the Premier’s residence collapsed and was carried further down along with the dirt.

This also caused damage to a number of small dwelling houses located close to the fence.

Sina said another landslide occurred around the same time yesterday in the western part of Gizo.

He said the main access road going to the coastal area is now inaccessible after the ridge along the road collapsed, and totally covered the road.

He said there are also unconfirmed reports of another landslide that blocked a road near Ngari community high school in the West Gizo.

Sina said following the landslides, Premier Kuve yesterday summoned the township’s Red Cross officer and the Disaster officer to brief his Executive about the current situation in the province.
