North Malaita MP Jimmy Lusibaea has called on the Democratic Coalition for Change Government (DCCG) to include the Townsville Peace Agreement in its upcoming policies.

Speaking during the recent sine die motion in Parliament, Mr Lusibaea says the Townsville Peace Agreement is still fresh in the minds of the people of Malaita and Guadalcanal Provinces.

He urged the Government to include the agreement in its policies.

“In case the DCC government forgets, the Townsville Peace Agreement is still fresh in the minds of the people of Malaita and Guadalcanal. Hence, Mr. Speaker I would like to remind the DCC government not to forget this piece of agreement. The upcoming DCC policy that we are yet to see must include what was written in that peace agreement. Failure of not including its recommendation Mr. Speaker would be seen as a slap on the face of our good leaders that are signatories to this peace agreement.”

The Townsville Peace Agreement was signed in Townsville Australia on October 15th in 2000, between the Malaita Eagle Force and Isatabu Freedom Movement to cease hostilities during the ethnic crisis.
