The Member of Parliament for North Malaita Hon. Jimmy Lusibaea is still part of the ruling Democratic Coalition for Change (DCC) Government.

Mr. Lusibaea resigned as Minister of Infrastructure Development, tendering his resignation to the Governor-General in accordance with section 34 (6) (d) of the Constitution last Friday.

Special Secretary to Prime Minister, Andrew Muaki told SIBC News Mr. Lusibaea is still part of the government except for his portfolio as the Minister of Infrastructure Development.

He says if the Governor-General accepts his resignation, the Ministry of Infrastructure Development portfolio is now vacant.

The GG has already accepted his resignation so that means the post is vacant, only the letter confirms he is still part of the Government. We are yet to receive any advice from the Government House and it has yet to advise the Prime Minister. The assumption is that the GG has received the letter and the other assumption is that the GG has already endorsed it, and if that’s the case then there’s a vacancy in the Ministry of Infrastructure Development for a Minister.”

Meanwhile, Private Secretary to the Governor-General, Nigel Maezama confirms, the Governor General Sir Frank Kabui has accepted Mr. Lusibaea’s resignation this morning.

“The Governor-General has accepted his resignation and in this case, he resigned as the Minister of Infrastructure Development. We’ve received the letter yesterday afternoon and His Excellency has written back this morning to accept his resignation.”
