Makira Ulawa Province had received a new Tractor for Refuse Collection and a 40 Horse Power Yamaha OBM and Canoe from the National Government through the Provincial Capacity Development Fund

Permanent Secretary of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening, MPGIS, Stanley Dick Pirione delivered the tractor with its trailer and OMB and canoe worth over 450- Thousand to Premier Thomas Weape in Kirakira.

The assets were funded under the Provincial Capacity Development Fund, PCDF, as part of the Provincial Governance Strengthening Program, PGSP, under the MPGIS.

In a moving ceremony, the Premier thanked the National Government for recognizing the health, environment and sanitation needs of the people of Kirakira station.

The tractor will be used solely for refuse collection and will also be used for transporting of heavy items.

The Premier emphasized that in recent years, the province has relied heavily on private refuse collectors and sometimes there are delayed collections which threaten the health of residents.

Meanwhile, Mr Pirione asked the province to properly look after the asset as it is very expensive and difficult to acquire.
