It is still premature for Malaita Province to have its own autonomy.
President of the Malaita Ma’asina Forum (MMF) made the statement in a media conference in Honiara recently.
This came after Malaita Provincial Premier Peter Shanel Ramohia recently announced his government’s intention for Malaita Province to have its own autonomy.
But Mr Dausabea said the Malaita Provincial Government should prioritise developing Malaita Province first before deciding on such a political move for the province.
Mr Dausabea adds, any autonomy for Malaita Province should be decided on by referendum.
“Leaders of the province have the right to say what they want to say, but for Ma’asina Forum we want to develop Malaita to a level where we would like to see giving an autonomy say for 10 to 15 years then let them have a referendum to vote and decide whether to be independent or to remain part of Solomon Islands.”
