Gizo Police has arrested a male person in his 30’s following the recent burning down of the old Gizo hospital building in the Western province.
The incident occurred last Friday.
Police alleged the accused, who has health conditions, started the fire in his room.
The building was quickly evacuated with some properties being removed in time; however, no one was injured except for the suspect who received minor injuries.
A statement from the Police said fire officers were at the scene but were unable to extinguish the blaze.
Police and medical officers have cordoned the site and urged the general public not to go near the burning ashes as hazardous fumes and chemicals from burned items and materials would have health impacts on people in the future.
