A man from Ngella, Central Province, accused of raping a girl after attacking her boyfriend, appeared before the Magistrate’s Court this morning.

The Ngella Man is also accused of assaulting a police officer and escaping from lawful custody.

Police allege the accused raped the 26 year old girl after attacking her boyfriend when they were seeing each other at the Children’s Park, at Rove, West Honiara.

The boyfriend ran off to find help, leaving the victim with the accused.

The accused allegedly dragged the girl to the Western end of the Children’s Park gate to a small hill by the sea, where he raped her.

Another man who helped the boyfriend to look for his girlfriend found them, but the accused ran away.

The incident happened on the night of December 27, last year.

The matter was reported to the Police and the accused was arrested the next day.

While in custody, the accused tried to escape twice and also assaulted a police officer.

The Police Prosecution told the Court the accused’s case has been transferred from them to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The case was adjourned to February 10 for further hearing.
