MET SERVICE ISSUED HEAVY RAIN ALERT FOR PARTS OF SOLS

The Solomon Islands Meteorological Service has issued a heavy rain alert to certain parts of the country.

Called “Heavy Rain Alert Number One”, the alert is in for Temotu, Malaita, Makira, Choiseul, Western and Isabel provinces.

The MET Service alert states a trough – a region of unstable air lies North of the Solomon Islands and is linked to a low pressure system North of Temotu province adding, the low is expected to continue moving in a Westward direction.

It adds, associated rain, heavy at times is expected to affect the Solomon Islands within the next 48 to 72 hours, saying such localised heavy rain may lead to flash flooding or flooding to communities living close to rivers, streams and low lying areas.

It said the next update will be available at 7.30am tomorrow.
