The Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade Clay Forau has delivered food and funds donated by the MSG Secretariat staff in Vanuatu and by his Ministry to the National Disaster Council.
Chairman of the National Disaster Council Melchior Mataki received the donations at a brief ceremony held at the Ministry’s Office in Honiara yesterday.
Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Beraki Jino said Ministry staff had raised over 10-thousand dollars during two fundraising events and had bought 61 bags of rice for the flood recovery efforts with the funds.
The funds were raised during their fortnightly fundraising through card games and selling of food and drinks.
The MSG Secretariat staff donated 452-thousand vatu, the equivalent to 0ver 31-thousand Solomon dollars towards the recent flood recovery efforts after a successful one-day flood fundraising appeal held at the MSG Secretariat in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
NDC Chairman Melchior Mataki said such small gestures from citizens are important.
Mr Mataki also thanked the MSG Secretariat staff and the Port Villa community for their support for the recovery efforts.
