The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock has launched the second phase of the Rural Development Project in Honiara this morning.

Speaking at the launching, Agriculture Minister Augustine Auga says his Ministry through the project will address national objectives of poverty reduction and inclusive economic growth towards improving an enabling environment for rural base agricultural activity.

He says the overall aim of the project is to improve the livelihood of farmers and contribute to the economy of the country.

“It must benefit fully our rural farmers to improve their rural livelihoods and the noncom of the country. Ladies and gentlemen this program is in line with the DCC’s policy objectives  of development and commercial agriculture and development and marketing of high-value cash crops. The Government’s primary objective is to achieve broad base economy development by empowering our people to participate to be engaged in productive activities and employment activities.”

The second Rural development project is focused mainly on Agri-business partnerships.

It will work with commercial banks in Solomon Islands to give small and medium agricultural businesses a better chance of getting a loan for their businesses.
