A new website containing relevant data and information about the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD) was launched Thursday this week.

Minister of Education and Human Resources Development, Dr Derek Sikua said the launching marks another milestone for the Ministry’s endeavours to contribute to social transformation and development of the country, by sharing important information about the country’s education system online.

A government statement said the objective to develop the website is to allow information about the country’s education be accessible to everyone who can contribute to the social and economic development of the country.

Education Minister, Dr Derek Sikua said it is necessary to remind everyone that the Ministry of Education is accountable and must be transparent to inform the public about its work through the website.

He said the website was designed not only to be visibly attractive, but interactive as well.

Meanwhile, the statement said the website is an important tool which will be used to disseminate information to education stakeholders in Solomon Islands and beyond.

It is a source of information to students, teachers, education authorities, researchers and stakeholders to find and collect information.

The site was jointly funded by the Solomon Islands Government and the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC).

Coordinator of SPC’s Solomon Islands Country Office, Mia Rimon said SPC is proud to have been part of its development but also being part of building local capacity via the recruitment and hands-on training of a Solomon Islands USP graduate in web development.

She said the website is part of SPC’s Statistics for Development Division’s assistance to the Ministry but also complements regional initiatives under the 10 Year Pacific Statistics Strategy 2011-20 and support for the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) being coordinated by the SPC.
