The Ministry of Women and its partners commemorates International Human Rights Day with the presentation of awards at the Iron Bottom Sound Hotel Wednesday this week.

The day also marks the final event of the 16 Days of Activism which was launched last month.

Speaking during the Human Right Award ceremony, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Women Ethel Sigimanu said Solomon Islands should recognise the efforts of individuals and organisation to promote the rights of others.

“It is only fitting that we as a country should recognise the great efforts of individuals and organisations who have taken the commitment and leadership to promote and protect the rights of others.”

Meanwhile Human Right awards recipients for this year include, Chelcia Gomese for creative writing on Human Right, the Community Rehabilitation Unit from the Ministry of Health for organisations in promoting Human Right and Brother George Van Der Zant for Individual category.
