The National Council of Women (NCW) has described as “horrifying and disturbing”, reports revealing the reality of sexual violence being suffered by women and young girls in the Solomon Islands.

According to a report by Adam Morton, Deputy Editor of the Australian Sunday Age News Paper on Solomon Islands, one in three women loses their virginity by rape.

In a statement today, NCW President Ella Kauhue said they are shocked to hear of such a report and are calling on relevant stakeholders to find a common way forward to addressing such an evil.

She said such a report indicates a nation that has no respect for its women with a judicial system that is weak right down to the community level.

She adds, the government must seriously deal with such an issue inthe country.
