The Solomon Islands National Council of Women (NCW) has called on the Honiara City Council (HCC) to immediately remove all waste at the Honiara Central Market.

NCW made the call in a statement, saying the health of women and children who are using the market daily to sell their products are a concern.

It says for the past days, ordure coming from the market was unbearable and unhealthy for those who are selling their products.

The Women’s Council said these women have paid fees in order to sell their products and they deserve a clean and healthy environment to do business.

Meanwhile, the Council adds the unhealthy environment at the Honiara Central Market is not helping the current campaign by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services in combating the current diarrhoea outbreak.

It says the Honiara Central Market Management should promote a clean and safe environment because that is where the general public of Honiara gets their food.
