Nine vessels were washed ashore during the recent bad weather in Honiara, says the Acting Director of the Solomon Islands Maritime and Safety Captain Tim Harris.

Speaking to the local media today Captain Harris says four of the vessels were re-floated while five are still on the beach.

He says a preliminary investigation has been launched to dig into the cause of the wreckage.

“We have done investigations, we did a preliminary investigation and they are still investigating some of them. But maybe it was because of engine breakdowns, steering gear problems and the fact that they just didn’t have sufficient power to withstand the onset of the weather.”
