The Solomon Islands Meteorological Services (SIMS) has said the country is no direct threat from the current winds over land areas due to the active trough which lies over the country.

Director of Meteorology, David Hiriasia told SIBC News there are no threats at the moment, but strong winds may occur at times.

He says the main warning now is for mariners and those living in coastal areas.

“The main threat or warning goes for mariners and those living in coastal areas where there would be rough seas. Also, the low-pressure systems can develop heavy swells which if added up with the wind waves can cause very rough seas and also the possibility of coastal flooding.”

SIBC News understands, the Met Service has issued ‘Heavy Rain Warnings’ and ‘What To Do Information’ messages for the whole country.
