The Parliamentary Opposition Group has congratulated athletes who have raised the country’s profile by winning medals during last week’s Pacific Games in Port Moresby.
Opposition members acknowledged the commitment and perseverance showed by the athletes and at the same time encourage athletes who failed to win medals to aim higher and to never give up.
As such, the Opposition Group says it’s time the Government recognizes the athletes for their hard work and commitment in representing and raising the country’s flag amongst regional flags.
He said many of the athletes are unemployed and have committed their time to training away from their families – it is only right that the Government recognizes them.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Jeremiah Manele has reiterated his call made during his Sine Die speech in April, on the need for Parliament to invest in sports infrastructure and development programs – evenly shared throughout the provinces.
