Leader of Parliamentary Opposition Jeremiah Manele has acknowledged there are challenges in the implementation of development budgets over the years.

Contributing to the resolution motion last week, Mr. Manele said these challenges include inadequate planning and technical skills capacity of implementing line ministries.

He says these needs strengthening if the government is to improve the implementation of the country’s major investment projects.

“These needs to be strengthened if we are to improve on the implementation of major investment projects and programs such as Tenaru, Doma and Suafa cannery processing sites.”

The MP for Kia, Havulei, Hongrano constituency adds land accessibility including slow land acquisition processes and land disputes also remain a major impediment to major developments in the country.

“Land accessibility including slow land acquisition processes and land disputes as we all know remain a major impediment to infrastructure development and other major developments in our country. It is important that we pursue land reforms that unlock the development potential of our country’s vast land resources in a way that protects the rights and benefits of resource owners while at the same time provide some level of economic security for genuine investors.”
