Over 30 school teachers have received inaugural gold medal awards in recognition of their long service and dedication to the teaching profession.

The Gold Medal Awards are an initiative of the Solomon Islands National Teachers Association (SINTA) and were awarded to teachers during World Teachers Day yesterday.

Some of the gold medals were awarded posthumously, and were received by the recipients children.

SINTA General Secretary, Samson Faisi told SIBC News, the Association spent over $20,000.00 on the awards on 32 gold medals.

“The almost 30 gold medals have cost us more than SBD$20,000.00 because we have ordered them from Fiji through a local company in Honiara.

The SINTA General Secretary also said, the Association plans to increase the number of gold medal awards next year and that this will be an annual event for teachers.
