The Chief Electoral Officer is warning people against double registrations, saying they will be exposed.

In a statement, Polycarp Haununu says the Voters Identification Card will be used for verification during the revision period of the registration timeframe.

Mr Haununu said the Electoral Commission received reports that a number of people have already tried to register more than once in order to get more cards to sell to intending candidates of the upcoming elections.

He said the reports are unexpected and surprising.

He said registering more than once to get more cards is a serious criminal offence with severe punishment.

SIBC News understands crimes of double registrations and false declaration on registration forms has penalty fine of 5-thousand dollars or imprisonment of a minimum of 6 months.
