Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has officially opened the Seventh Australia Solomon Islands Business Forum in Honiara today.

Themed “Signposting the Path to Sustainable Economic Growth”, the forum brought together local and international speakers to discuss ways to promote doing business between Solomon Islands and Australia.

The Forum will also hear of the experience of developing various economic sectors from speakers.

Speaking today, Prime Minister Sogavare said this year’s theme reminds people to do business and pay attention to achievements.

“I consider theme “Signposting the path to Sustainable Economic Growth” is reminding our people of business and indeed our goal that we must begin to pay attention I guess to things we are doing right in the achievements we are making in commerce, in good governance and expanding development to isolated rural villages and communities and in raising health and education standards.”

The Prime Minister also encouraged participants to maintain their achievements to avoid failing business goals.

“We must flag these achievements and keep working on them because they are the pathways to success. They point us to and keep us in the right direction. They boost our confidence to work harder to achieve better results. Over time the signpost become predictable and we recognise them and we act accordingly to avoid failing our goals.”

The forum was initiated by the Australia Pacific Islands Business Council and the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce. It ends tomorrow.
