PNG SOE DELEGATION IN HONIARA TO ASSIST RELIEF EFFORTS

A State Owned Enterprise delegation from Papua New Guinea is currently in the country to assess and assist with disaster relief activities.

Speaking during a welcome reception at the Heritage Club over the weekend, PNG High Commission Second Secretary, Tommy Angau said the visit is important as it is to assist the Solomon Islands Government address relief efforts in the country.

Mr Angau said PNG plays a significant role in the development of Solomon Islands in terms of education as well as other sectors.

“Papua New Guinea has ever since madeĀ a significant contribution to the development of this beautiful country since the independence of both countries. PNG has contributed a lot in their human resource development in terms of education. Most of the early educated people completed their education in PNG and I proud to say this, that the current Prime Minister of Solomon Islands Honourable Gordon Darcy Lilo a product of the University of Papua Nue Guinea.”

Mr Angau adds, last year PNG’s Prime Minister has made a commitment of 1-hundred million kinas to assist disaster relief efforts in Solomon Islands for a period of five years.

The delegation has also met with the National Disaster Management Office Friday last week to discuss and look at areas in need of disaster assistance.
