Police Commissioner Frank Prendergast has appealed for close cooperation between the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and local communities in the country.

This follows a recent incident involving an RSIPF officer accepting bribes from a bus driver after the bus was arrested for traffic offenses in Honiara.

Commissioner Prendergast told a recent media conference, the RSIPF needs to be accountable and that needs cooperation from the community.

“The RSIPF needs to be accountable and  the community needs to hold us accountable so if there’re people having information about corruption activity by police officers, I would ask that they contact the professional standards in internal investigations, command or my office with the information and I can assure you that it will be dealt with appropriately.”
